Do You Know The Speed Of Light In A Vacumed Area??
So day number one of real lectures got off to a bad start when i thought i had lost my oyster card which i had been majorly ripped off with and had cost a crazy amount of money .... 10 mins after panic searching began i found it inside my diary!! Got to the tube station and met my friend on my course (Vanisha) just as the train came. We sat down and the journey went extremely fast meaning we arrived 15mins early.
We had our first lecture at 9-10.30 in 'the ophthalmic lens lab' where we learnt about spherical lenses, using trial case lenses, units of the power of a lens and how to neutralise lenses. It was actually interesting but our practical side got a bit tedious towards the end. (Though i did manage a bit of sucking up to the teacher and i also managed to get 4 outof 7 neutralisations correct!! Go Me!!)
We had a half hour break when me vanisha and aaron sat outside chatting a bit and then headed to our optics exercise class. This is normally going to be consolidating calculations and other things done on the course however we hadnt done anything yet so we sat listening to our teacher talking and talking a little bit more and then talking even more until 45 mins had passed and we were set free. I also managed to suck up after that class too.
Unfortunately theres a huge gap at that point on my timetable and i have to waste 2hrs. I met up with people from my course and we just went and explored a bit and then sat in starbucks up the road chatting until we headed to our Ophthalmic lenses Lecture (different from the morning one which is in the lab and is only half the people on our course). This one is with the whole course and is learning theory stuff and facts and will have calculations.
It was during this lecture that speed of light came up. He was happily talking away throwing information at us from left right and centre and asked us 'what is the speed of light in a vacumed/sealed area?' ... a milisecond after that he corrected himself and said 'actually you all know that its 3 times 10 to the power of 8 anyway dont you so that doesnt matter and you should all know that in a normal area its 1.97 time 10 to the power of 8 so we wont go into all that..." and then he swiftly moved on leaving all of us looking rather bewildered and unwilling to admit that we all hadnt got a clue what he was talking about!!!! [we all then attempted to scribble down what he had just said as discreetly as possible without him noticing that we all hadnt got the foggiest!!]
This lecture was ended 20mins early to allow us enough time to get to our next lecture (2 hour human biology one) which was ok but half an hour till the end was just getting a bit much and concentration was slipping very drastically!!
Got home at 6.15 to the lovely smell of dinner and swiftly crashed out exhausted from the day.
So there you have it .... a blow by blow account of my day!!
I get to sleep in a bit tomorrow because my first lecture is at 10.30am meaning i only have to get to the station at 9.20!!
other than uni - no real news. Oh .. NO HOT WATER AGAIN. (so if i smell more than i usually do this is due to no shower!! :P .....) Gonna go over to friends house to use their shower though so will be annoying but ok.
and one last thing TUBES SUCK. but im getting good at guessing which stop people are going to get off at.
No news to report. Hope i didnt bore you too much (if you managed to read till the end that is!)
(oh and shira - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! - even though i know it was yesterday and i did call you... i forgot to mention it here for you!!! hope your settling in ok and the move wasnt too crazy!!)
All thats left to say now is Have a great weekend and dont do anything i wouldnt do!!! :P
